- I am currently on Back to Education Allowance. Another student in my class gets a PLC maintenance grant, would I qualify for this?

The Maintenance Grant is available to PLC students & is a contribution towards day-to-day living costs and is paid directly to eligible students through nine monthly instalments over the course of the academic year.
Maintenance grants are paid at an adjacent and non-adjacent rate. Students must ordinarily reside over 45km from where they intend to study to be eligible for the non-adjacent rate.
Tuition students and students in receipt of a BTEA (Back to Education Allowance) or VTOS (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme) payment are not eligible to receive the maintenance grant so the answer is no in your case.
Distance Learning and Online Courses are offered in a number of different formats, these include correspondence courses (by post), online via computer or a combination of online and classroom instruction (blended learning).. View
