WHAT IS SPORTS REHABILITATION AND
PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSISTANT ?
Students who undertake this one-year course in Pre-Physiotherapy studies will gain an understanding of the principles and practices of rehabilitation and an insight
into how to assess and treat clients whose movement is
restricted by illness, injury, disability or age.
Students will gain the skills needed by the HSE to work in
the healthcare sector, which will help them to understand
therapy programmes and support clients in restoring or
improving their mobility.
Practical classes will be timetabled on-site
at Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and
the National gymnastics Training Centre at
Sports Campus Ireland Campus.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
This course enables graduates to progress to a Level 6
award and, thereafter, apply to progress to the Level 8
degree offered at the Royal College of Surgeons.
Alternatively, students can progress to a sports or
science related Level 8 degree and then to the Level 9
Physiotherapy at UCD. There are many progression options
for students to study physiotherapy in the UK.
Graduates may also apply for several other Level 7 and 8
degrees in universities and technological universities or
private colleges around the country.
The Pre-Physiotherapy Studies course is very valuable for
students and permits them to directly access employment.
EXAMPLES OF HIGHER EDUCATION
PROGRESSION:
Graduates can progress to related undergraduate
degrees in Ireland (e.g. Sports Rehabilitation or
Athletic Therapy) and then apply for a Physiotherapy
Masters programme in universities such as UCD and
UL or in the UK.
Graduates are eligible to apply directly for
Physiotherapy undergraduate degrees in certain UK
universities.
Mature students can apply for Physiotherapy
undergraduate degree programmes in Ireland or the
UK.
