WHAT IS SPORT SCIENCE?
This one-year course introduces students to the broad and
expanding sector of Sport Science. An interesting course
that will provide students with the skills, knowledge and
qualifications necessary to gain employment in the sports
sector.
With the combination of modules, students can avail of
the science award with some coaching modules and sports
anatomy and then continue to higher education to study
health or sports science.
COURSE CONTENT

availability or demand and are subject to change:

• Sports Anatomy and
Physiology
• Exercise and Fitness
• Physics
• Safety and Health at work
Practical classes will be timetabled onsite at Sport
Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National
Gymnastics Training Centre at Sports Campus
Ireland Campus.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates may apply for science certificate or degree
courses in TCD, UCD, DCU, TUD City Campus/Tallaght,
South East Technological University Carlow, Technological
University of the Shannon, Athlone, UCC, Atlantic
Technological University, St. Angela’s College Sligo, as well
as, other Institutes of Technology and colleges around the
country or in the UK.
For example, there are up to 21 places in Maynooth
University, 30 places in UCD science courses and 10 places
in Trinity in First Science for QQI graduates. Students can
progress to PE Teaching via an undergraduate degree at
Munster Technological University, Tralee or Cork University
and to the Postgraduate Master in PE Teaching at UL.
Graduates can also progress to Physical Education teaching
in DCU.
Alternatively, students may seek immediate employment in
a range of companies and projects that seek graduates with
a science aptitude.
