Course description
Lighting adds emotion to spaces and makes the difference between a mere building and a vibrant, living place where people meet and interact with each other. Our Lighting Design Exploration course gives participants an understanding of the different light sources available, from filament lamps to LEDs.
It also helps participants to choose the appropriate lighting types and their application in a variety of environments including residential, retail, commercial and industrial. It also deals with everyday issues such as avoiding glare, practicalities of installation and how to maintain good levels of light output over time. It introduces participants to the need for energy-saving in lighting costs.

- Room lighting design and consutancy
- Lighting output controls
- Lamp life and efficiency
- Maintenance and light output levels
- EU and Irish lighting standards – overview
Course Aims, Length and Entry
The course is anyone interested in lighting and lighting design.
The course runs over 1 day from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm with a break at lunchtime.
The course is delivered online in real time by the tutors.
Entry is open – no prior qualifications are required to enrol.
Certification: Participants receive the Griffin College Certificate in Exploring Lighting Design.
