Course Description:

Jewellery Making Course for Beginners 

This 8 week course is a practical introduction to jewellery making and design. You will learn traditional hand skills, how to pierce (saw), texture, drill, file, hammer and solder metal sheet and wire.

The course will be project based and is suitable for beginners to more advanced students. Lead by the pace of the class we will make pendants, earrings and rings.

Tools, base metal, copper, brass will be provided and silver for projects can be purchased from tutor.

Please bring an Apron & Notebook to class

Week 1

Health and safety and use of tools will be discussed, and our first project learning how to cut/ saw and file metal. We will start with a simple project using these techniques.
Week 2

Continuation of sawing exercises and drilling metal. Making a pendant, hanging ornament or bookmark. using filing and hammering and other ways of texturing metal. How to use a dremmel/ pendant drill. How to mark out metal correctly.
Week 3

Finishing week 2 project, learning how to finish and saw clean your piece.
Week 4

Learning how to solder, using wire in jewellery, how to make jump rings and chains.
Week 5

We will learn how to make a simple ring. With the skills and techniques, we have learned so far, student will be encouraged and guided how to make their own simple pieces of jewellery.
Week 6 -Week 8   

Continuation of students own individual projects with one-to-one help from tutor.

Course Day & Time: Tuesday evening 7.00 – 9.30

Start Date: 04/02/2025

Cost: €150  (This includes use of tools.  Base metal, copper, brass will be provided)

Please note: Silver required for projects can be purchased from tutor

Course Format: In class with tutor. Maximum of 10 students

This course will be led by our new tutor Sara Hunter a working goldsmith with nearly 30 years experience. She aims to teach in a safe, fun and relaxed environment.

Project 3. Making a ring. Sara will demonstrate different techniques in how to make different styles of simple rings.
Week 5
Complete rings. With the skills and techniques we have learned so far, student will be encouraged to design and make their own piece of jewellery
