Course Description

Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning the practice of Sports Massage Therapy, including functional anatomy and physiology, nutrition, classification of sports injuries and the stages of healing.  It will also provide you with the understanding, skills and techniques to plan, prepare for an apply a range of sports massage methods to uninjured clients. You will also develop the skills to evaluate massage strategies and methods to inform on future treatments.

Aims of Course

To provide skills at Level 3 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework for those interested in the sport and active leisure industry
To provide opportunities for staff in the sport and active leisure industry to gain a Level 3 qualification
To sustain the interest of students leading into a Level 4 qualification in the sport and active leisure industry
To encourage knowledge and understanding of the sport and active leisure industry at Level 3
To provide opportunities for students to focus on the development of the major functional skills and the wider functional skills in a Sports Massage context such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving
To provide opportunities for student to develop a range of skills and techniques. personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Sports Massage Therapist

Course Structure

This is a part-time course delivered over 15 weeks on a Saturday 9.30-5pm
