This a level 8, part-time, Springboard supported course. If you are a non-computing graduate looking to make a change in your career-path, this part-time online conversion course will allow you build the skills necessary to enter the ICT sector.

The Higher Diploma in Science in Computing (Part-time) provides a general foundation in Software Development with a focus on Web development, User Experience (UX), and Software Testing. This course is specifically designed for level 8 graduates from non-computing disciplines who wish to gain up-to-date knowledge of the core elements of computing and prepare for a career in business computing with a focus on quality assurance or software project management.

The course aims to provide re-skilling opportunities for graduates from other sectors who wish to enter the software industry and compete against other level 8 computing graduates for a broad range of computing opportunities. This integrative approach to learning will focus on developing a thorough understanding of foundational computing components, followed by specialist knowledge in software testing and quality assurance, user experience, or project management.

Upon completion of the course, graduates will possess in-demand skills in software testing, including test design techniques, test management, test tool evaluation, and static analysis skills. They can expect to find work as a software tester, QA consultant, agile tester, or functional software tester. Participants will also build valuable Web development and database skills.

The course consists of four semesters, and the modules cover a range of topics, including Introduction to Computing, Web Development, Introduction to Software Engineering, User Experience (UX), Programming 1, Database and Web Integration, Programming 2, Software Testing, Software Project Management, and Work Portfolio.

The course is delivered online, with weekly interactive and hands-on practical lab-based sessions supported by independent and online learning. Participants are required to attend online synchronous classes to master the materials. The course runs for 2 years part-time online, 2 evenings per week, with additional asynchronous online classes that can be watched at a suitable time for the student.
