Course description
QQI Level 5 Certificate in Fashion Design 5M3865. The Fashion Design course opens many opportunities in the fashion design industry. Fashion Design students can specialise in menswear, womenswear, streetwear or costume with tailoring and dressmaking as further options. Core technical modules in pattern drafting and garment construction provide the learner with the skills required to make their own unique outfits based on their own designs.
All coursework combines to form a portfolio suitable for application to Degree programmes, although most of our students choose to progress to our Advanced Fashion Design course.

Sustainable fashion principles embedded throughout the course
Continuous assessment with no examinations
Work experience in the Fashion Industry
Course content includes textile techniques, fashion history, and fashion illustration
This is a hands-on practical course with some written work
Facilities
A spacious fashion studio, excellently equipped with modern sewing machines and industrial machines
Well-equipped art rooms with a variety of materials provided
Prototyping (toiling) fabric, pattern paper, pattern card and many haberdashery items provided
Learning resources in multiple formats including digital libraries
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate or equivalent, LCA or relevant experience
Interview – Applicants should bring samples of their work to date in order to demonstrate their interest in fashion design. Suggested work includes drawing and artwork, design sketches, scrapbooks, garments made or customised and artefacts
Mature applicants welcome
Applicants may be accepted without meeting formal entry requirements.
