Course description
This class is intended for students who generally work in traditional media: watercolours, acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal, pencils, pen & ink, felt-tips, markers, collage, etc .
It is organised around two ‘streams’ which students can choose to participate as it suits them week-to-week.
One, a ‘self-directed’ stream with ‘one-to-one’ tuition for students who bring their own projects in with them to progress in class and where they can avail of advice and mentoring on an individual basis; and another ‘taught-stream’ where some of the fundamentals of ‘picture-making’ will be taught, ie. fundamentals of drawing; light and shade; colour theory and practice; pictorial composition; perspective; portraits; drawing the figure, elements of landscape; selecting a subject for one’s stage of development, lessons from great artists, etc.
The latter stream will involve some tutor demonstrations, in-class exercises, and out-of-class exercises the student may wish to continue learning with in their own time. Use of photography and digital images as an aide to ‘flat’ (or relief) art making is also included
