WHAT IS ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL
COOKERY?
If you hold a QQI Level 5 Professional Cookery, then why
not take the opportunity to undertake further studies in
advanced Professional Cookery. This course is designed to
equip the student with the relevant knowledge, skills and
competence to work using a range of specialised skills in a
professional kitchen.
The course provides the student with an opportunity to
obtain experience in a wide range of specialised areas
such as food and beverage services, bakeries and busy
restaurants, while gaining a sound general knowledge
in areas needed to function in the hotel and catering
environment.
This qualification can be used to gain advanced entry to
degree programmes at Level 7 and 8.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates from the Level 6 programme may apply for
advanced entry on a range of level 7 or level 8 degree
programmes in many universities or technological
universities around the country.
Graduates of this course may find employment in hotels,
restaurants, catering departments, cruise ships and airlines.
Graduates will also be well prepared for further studies in
the areas of hospitality, professional cookery, tourism and
business in TUD City Campus and other colleges.
This QQI award will enable students to apply and progress
onto catering and tourism degree programmes in
professional cookery, hospitality, bar supervision, front
office management and tourism.
In addition, holders of QQI Level 6 awards may also be able
to apply for other degree courses under Higher Education
Link Scheme.

• Level 5 in Professional Cookery 5M2088 or
equivalent
• Mature students with relevant industry
experience;
• Other equivalent qualification
